Introduction to Voice Recognition
Note: 'Press' refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. 'Touch' refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.
Toyota features an advanced voice recognition system that allows you to control many navigation functions through voice commands.
The voice command switch is located on the steering wheel. When you press the button, a command list appears on the screen to prompt you for a response.
It appears that Toyota navigational engineers employed NSA for creating the multi-step security controls surrounding upgrading the HDD Navigational system. One would think that the service revenue of $169 for each navi map/firmware upgrade would be free during the first two years after purchase of a new car, as Toyota does for oil changes.

The Toyota system uses natural speech information (English only). This means the voice command can be less structured and still be understood. For example, instead of saying 'stock quotes,' you can say, 'How are my stocks doing?' The system should be able to recognize the key words and complete your request. For a complete list of commands, please refer to your Owner's Manual.

- Spoken at a low or high volume
- The sunroof or windows are open
- Passengers are talking while voice commands are spoken
- The air conditioning speed is set on high
- The air conditioning vents are turned toward the microphone
